The American actor-singer-dancer-comedian, Danny Kaye (1911-1987), once said, “Life is a great big canvas, and you should throw all the paint on it you can.”
It’s a quote I have always loved. What a lovely way to view life! Makes it so interesting. There’s another way to look at what Danny Kaye said though. And that is…. life gives us all a big, blank canvas to sketch out our lives. When we are done, that sketch will be our epitaph!
I don’t know why. I don’t know how. But the following lines scrolled by on my mind’s radar yesterday…..seemingly out of nowhere.
Life is but a graveyard filled with memory,
Watch out or it may feel like a penitentiary.
The tombstones will tell a tale,
A smile won, a smile lost,
A tear dried, a heart bled,
Whose story will you regale?
No matter how hard you try,
The memories, they will arise.
There is simply no escape,
They will come a-calling,
In all sizes and shapes,
To engulf you in their cape.
The choice is yours,
It’s never too late,
Tend now to your graveyard,
Or meet your fate.
